• Prerequisites:  MA 3012 or MA 2222

The course provides an introduction to communication networks.  It introduces the layered structure of communication networks and provides an overview of algorithms and protocols used in the physical, data, link, network, transport, and application layer. Tentative list of topics that will be covered:
• Introduction to communication networks
• Layered Architectures
• Digital Communications
• Circuit and Packet Switching Networks
• Peer-to-peer Protocols
• Cooperative Networks (time permitting)

 
• Grading:
• Three Midterms, 20% each
• Final, 30%
• Homeworks, 10%
