Channel Modeling and Impairment Mitigation

All announcements and discussions are sent out to students through emails. You MUST provide the instructor your email address.

Print and preview lecture notes before each class. Bring notes to each class.

After finishing el602, you should be able to

1. Understand basic narrowband channel models and key fading phenomena (including lognormal and Rayleigh fadings) and be able to numerically simulate these channels.

2. Understand basic broadband channel models and key broadband multipath phenomena in both time and frequency domains and be able to numerically simulate these channels.

3. Understand basic principles of typical narrowband impairment-mitigation techniques (including diversity combining, handoff and power control) and be able to perform numerical simulation of these techniques.

4. Understand basic principles of typical broadband impairment-mitigation techniques (including various blind and non-blind equalization techniques and rake receiver) and be able to perform numerical simulation of these techniques.

5. Understand basic time varying channel models and key Doppler effects and be able to simulate these time varying channels and perform channel estimation.
