Internet Course Operation Mechanics

EL536 is among the courses at Polytechnic University being taught on the Internet. The main aspects of how this course will be operated are as follows:

• What will a student need in terms of computer hardware/software?
• A computer system with connectivity to the Internet and a printer, with a sound card and speakers.
• Adobe Acrobat Reader to read PDF files. This can be obtained from Adobe's home site.
• Real player to listen to audio files. This can be obtained from Real Audio's home site. These real audio files can be streamed down to your computer or downloaded to your disk.
• Winzip
• Microsoft's Powerpoint to view additional example files.
• Lectures
• Lectures will not be delivered in person on campus (except for the first lecture when the class will meet on campus - see below). Instead, each student is required to obtain the lecture notes from this web site and complete each lecture on time.
• Lecture notes are posted under the Lectures link. Voice recordings are provided explaining each slide of each lecture. These are real audio files that can be streamed or downloaded.
• The course is not self paced in the sense that homework will be due on specific dates, which implies that lectures pertaining to specific homework need to be completed by these dates.
• Homework has been posted here.  See Homework due dates and submit on time. You can submit homework in printed, handwritten or electronic formats. The teaching assistants will be grading your homework. Use mail, express mail, fax, or email to get the homework to the TAs on time. If you want to submit your homework electronically, please use pdf, postscript format or Word formats.
• Exams Close-book mid-term and final exams will be held on camp.
• The instructor will be available for office hours.
• Students can send private email to the instructor at panwar@catt.poly.edu.
