2. GRADUATE RESEARCH FELLOWSHIPS IN TELECOMMUNICATIONS

The New York State Center for Advanced Technology in Telecommunications (CATT) is inviting applications for graduate research fellowships for new entering students interested in pursuing Ph.D.'s in the area of telecommunications and distributed information systems. The areas of research at CATT include: (i) high speed networks, (ii) wireless networks, (iii) multimedia communications, and (iv) distributed information systems. Students with excellent academic credentials are invited to apply.

The fellowship offers a stipend and free tuition for a period of one year. Interested students should apply for admission either in the Electrical and Computer Engineering Department or the Computer and Information Science Departments at Polytechnic University. The GRE is a requirement for all foreign applicants. Call (718) 260-3200 or e-mail admitme@poly.edu for admission forms.

To apply for a CATT graduate research fellowship in the ECE Department, submit the Research Fellowship Application form (mentioned above) to the ECE Department. Again, the application deadlines are March 1 for the Fall semester and October 15 for the Spring semester. Applicants may also contact individual professors they wish to work with. For more information you can also call (718) 260-3340 or send e-mail to: claudia@catt.poly.edu.

3. RESEARCH FELLOWSHIPS

JUNIOR GRADE - Applicant must be a full-time MS candidate, and is required to complete a Master's thesis, if appointed a Research Fellow. The stipend is per month (7/1/2004 - 6/30/2005) usually for twelve months.

INTERMED. GRADE - Applicant must be a full-time Ph.D. candidate. The stipend is per month (7/1/2004 - 6/30/2005) usually for twelve months.

SENIOR GRADE - Applicant must be a full-time Ph.D. candidate enrolled for the final year of studies. The stipend is per month (7/1/2004 - 6/30/2005) usually for twelve months.

No other employment, full- or part-time, is permitted during the term of a Fellowship appointment, unless authorized by both the Department Head and the Dean of Engineering.

N.Y. State residents must apply to the Tuition Assistance Program (TAP), and will be asked to complete an application at registration time. A registration authorization form, indicating the tuition and fee terms, will be provided at that time.

Foreign graduate students should generally be prepared to spend at least one year here without support from the Polytechnic. During that year they should become acquainted with the faculty and may take the Ph.D. Qualifying Exams. If they do well on the exams, they have a better chance of being awarded a Fellowship. The exception to this general rule is for those who have been accepted for a University Research Fellowship or a CATT Graduate Research Fellowship. As a result of funding cutbacks, we are currently able to offer financial aid only to a very limited number of applicants.

The deadlines for submitting Research Fellowship applications to the ECE Department are March 1 for the Fall semester and October 15 for the Spring semester.

The Research Fellowship Application form can be downloaded from the Web at: http://eeweb.poly.edu/fellowship.doc.
