SPRING 2005 COURSES
EL568: Electric Drives Characteristics and Controls

Instructor: Zivan Zabar
Phone: x3495
E-mail: zzabar@poly.edu

COURSE DESCRIPTION:

Transient conditions in electric drives. Load torques, moment of inertia, masses and forces translated to a rotating shaft. Acceleration and deceleration time. Consideration in selecting motor power rating. Motor heating (cooling) under different kinds of duty. Load diagram construction. Speed control of electric drives. Four quadrant operation of DC and AC drives with static converter supply. Worked examples effectively illustrate the application of the mathematical derivations.
